Kids Themed Birthday Party Recap ~Bluey & Hello Kitty~

Hi, friends! It's been eight months since my last post. Today I want to dive right into sharing a recap of my children's birthday parties earlier this year.

Bluey Party

First up is my son's second birthday. He chose a Bluey theme , and even in the midst of moving, mama persevered to make it happen for my little man! I wrote a blog post sharing his first birthday party (Old MacDonald Barnyard Bash) you can read here

I had this sheet cake made at Walmart. It turned out so good and was very tasty!
This year in place of a large party, we did a family party at home and let the kids pick a place they'd like to visit. Our son chose a train museum.
The star decorative item of this setup was the 3ft Bluey cut out! It was a simple idea at first but it took some trial and error with different images at Walgreens. I love using Walgreens photo prints for photos, invites, Christmas cards and poster prints. They always have a discount code online or in the app, too!

Be forewarned! I spent a good hour at Walgreens trying different images because as they were printing I noticed the image looked blurry or distorted. I even purchased a set of high quality Bluey images from an Etsy seller to no avail. Thankfully, she was kind enough to refund me. I wound up settling for a different image on Google than I originally planned for and decided to just go with what would print clearly. My advice prior is to either make sure you are using a high quality resolution image or be prepared from some trial and error at Walgreens. (Note: prints that are distorted are of no charge).
On to the crafting!
We glued the image to the foam board using hot glue. Next we used an exact knife to cut it out. My husband also made a simple T stand for the back using excess foam board and glued that to the backside so our Bluey would stand upright.
After the party I sold the Bluey cut out on FB marketplace for $15! 👏

Extremely pleased with this sheet cake from Walmart! I will continue ordering from their bakery. Highly recommend!
Birthday Eve! I set up everything the night before once the children were fast asleep. The Bluey placemat and balloon arch are from Hobby Lobby.

Hello Kitty Party
Our daughter turned six in February and chose a Hello Kitty theme for her party. Her adventure outing was very fun indoor multi-level playground in Metairie, LA called Luv 2 Play.

Dad also bought a piñata for her party and both kids enjoyed whacking it furiously until it ruptured with candied goodness 🍬 🍭

Another fabulous Walmart cake!

I purchased the Hello Kitty plates and napkins months prior at TJ Maxx and set them atop white chargers from Hobby Lobby. Banner & balloon arch from Hobby Lobby as well as the decorative sign in the middle of the table. I saw it on clearance at the checkout line. It not resides in my daughters room on her bookshelf.
I purchased a pink plastic tablecloth and the front fringe decor from Hobby Lobby. The white ceramic cake plate I purchased from Hobby Lobby for our daughter's first birthday cake. The three tier sweets stand and white candle holders are thrifted. The sweets are from Rouses (they always have unique candies in the produce section). Oh! And the cardboard Happy Birthday sign and glasses are also Hobby Lobby and while not Hello Kitty themed, I thought went very well with her other decor.

I really enjoyed this way of birthdaying! We had recently moved and were in the middle of home repairs so this just felt right and it may just turn out to be a new tradition!

My most memorable birthday growing up was my 16th birthday. I fondly recall having a big bowling party and invited a bunch of my friends for pizza, cake and of course bowling!

What was the most memorable birthday for you and why? Was it a special gift you received, a special outfit you wore or perhaps a delicious homemade cake? I'd love to hear..

Wishing you all a slow-living, peaceful summer.

~Crissy
