Old MacDonald Had A Farm First Birthday

As I write this it is the Eve of party day! Tomorrow is my son's first birthday party. I really just want to be happy on this day and not stressed out. I didn't invite too many guests because I really want to enjoy being with him and soaking it all up rather than playing hostess. All I want is for my family to be healthy and together to enjoy the day.

To see big sister's excitement when she gives him his gift from her.

To make memories with her decorating for his party.

To witness every smile, every giggle and kiss his chubby cheeks too many times.

I have always let my daughter choose the theme of her birthday. I ask her what kind of birthday she would like and then I design the decor and food around that. I plan to let them choose like this for as long as they will :-) However, the first birthday is the only birthday of my choosing. Meaning I choose the theme since they're too young to really have any interests yet. I noticed my son really enjoyed the song 'Old MacDonald Had A Farm' so that's what inspired me to go with this barnyard bash theme.

I started tossing around ideas and planning it only a few weeks ago and now here we are on the eve of party day! I would suggest planning sooner but it all came together quite nicely and sometimes the sooner I start planning, the more money I wind up spending. This birthday has come together surprisingly easy. I'm not sure if I'm just getting the hang of these parties better now or what but I'm glad for the mostly stress free planning experience. It also has been pretty good on my wallet, too! I found some great items for even better prices at Hobby Lobby, surprisingly way less than what I saw on Amazon! I found the cutest (and easiest) themed snack ideas from Pinterest and the barn and balloon tower animals are homemade!

The Decor

I made the barn out of a storyboard, white duct tape, construction paper, farm animal cut outs and leftover banner. The balloon tower animals were also homemade using wrapping paper ribbon to hold the balloons together to form a tower. Just about everything was purchased from Hobby Lobby.

The Food

All of the food items had a farm theme! My favorite is the vegetable garden. 🥕 🥦 🍅

The Details

I made this barn animal poster online with a list of his favorite foods and activities and had it printed at Walgreens. It added a personal touch and looked nice set up by our farm animal goodie bags.

The cowboy hats and bandanas were another Hobby Lobby purchase. They are sold separately and I just rolled the bandana's up and tied them onto the hats.

His outfit was absolutely adorable and perfectly on theme. I was planning on my head to find him some denim overalls and order some patches to iron on but I found the cutest overall set with a barn on the chest and little farm animals on the knees! I couldn't have dreamed up a better outfit for his party so I was ecstatic to find it.

There you have it :-) An Old MacDonald Barnyard Bash! It was a great party and I've never seen him so happy! He clapped and blew kisses all day long. It was the perfect day for my little man.
